Kathryn Burns – Director
My name is Kathryn Doherty, I have been a teacher for the past 15 years. I have five children so life is never dull! An Mála Mór began in 2008, as a mainstream teacher I was constantly thinking of new ways to make learning Irish fun and interactive. While seeking a change in the method of teaching Irish, I created a positive environment around the learning of Gaeilge. I sought the help of my mother Patricia Coyle who had taught primary school children all her working life and her passion was always in the teaching and learning of Gaeilge. Together we came up with the Irish story sacks, bringing fun into Irish. We wanted the children to be fully engaged in the lessons while participating by asking questions during the lesson. We received a great response from our market research and have found that schools were seeking interactive hands on Irish material. Since we started An Mála Mór, the business has grown and we now have a wide range of books that fit into the Gaeilge themes along with a new range of listening products and grammar posters.
